Ikebana Art Class, Sept 13, 20, 27, Oct. 4th, 2-3:30PMDescription:Join this fun course and learn all about Ikebana -- the art of Japanese flower arranging. In this course, students will learn about the history of Ikebana, as well as, its modern-day art forms, using natural lines, shapes, and color combinations. Through creating their own designs to take home each week, students will develop a unique understanding of humanity and nature brought together through floral design. This class will be a lot of fun, and will give everyone a chance to be truly creative!$70 for the four-week course Students should bring: scissors/sheers, a shallow container with large opening, pin frogs/floral combs (if you have them) Artist Description:Michiru Kunikata Shearer, or “Michi” for short, is a certified instructor from Ikenobo Ikebana School in Japan. Her Ikebana advisor is based in Chicago; however she lives here in the Quad Cities and currently teaches the Japanese language at Augustana College. She has been studying this unique art for many years and is looking forward to teaching Ikebana at the Botanical Center!

Art Class: “Silk Painting”: Tuesdays, October 20 and 27, 6-8pm2-week course, $60.00Description: Try your hand at silk painting. Taught by one of the Quad Cities most enthusiastic artists, this class will prove to be a great learning experience for everyone. During the course, each student will create his/her own wearable hand-painted 36”x36” silk scarf; give it as a gift or wear it with pride yourself. Join this one-of-a-kind class and get ready for lots of creativity and fun!Students Should Bring: 4-baby food jars with lids, small watercolor bushes, 1-Ice cube tray. Artist Description: Beth Peters is a regional artist who received her Bachelors of Fine Arts from Iowa State University. She has been an active artist in the Quad City community for the past 10 years with multiple shows in the area and Chicago. She has won International Fiber Arts Awards.
