DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION STATEMENT
Like the flowers in a thriving wildflower garden, our community is a vibrant collection of unique people who coexist to form something extraordinary together. Our mission to bring people and plants together in fun and meaningful ways inspires and enables us to serve those underrepresented due to mobility, socioeconomic and other challenges. We carry out our mission in our Rock Island gardens, at schools throughout the area and through community gardens on both sides of the river.
Connecting youth to nature in our gardens is made possible with help from generous donors that fund scholarships that pay for transportation for school groups, provide free educational programming to families on Sundays and underwrite science lessons for kids.
Partnerships with local companies and national organizations allow the Botanical Center to offer discounted or free admission to guests, making the gardens accessible to all. Admission discounts are extended to veterans, seniors 65 and older, college students, EBT participants and Big Brothers Big Sisters participants.
Our physically enabling garden of raised beds is designed to allow people with limited mobility the opportunity to garden. Each year this garden is planted by Handicapped Development Center, lovingly tended with help from Hand in Hand and funded by a grant from Tri-City Garden Club.
We continue to form new relationships with schools, non-profit groups and businesses that share our vision for an inclusive and welcoming experience in our gardens and community.
